Gloria S. Nelund – Chairman & Chief Executive Officer
Gloria Nelund co-founded TriLinc Global after a rewarding career as one of the most successful and visible executives in the international asset management industry. She is responsible for leading the Company’s high-level strategy and directing its growth since its founding in 2008. Gloria brings to TriLinc Global more than 30 years of experience in executive management of multi-billion dollar financial institutions, as well as deep expertise in the creation, sales and distribution of investment products.
Most recently, Gloria served as CEO of the U.S. Private Wealth Management Division at Deutsche Bank, the world’s fifth largest financial institution. In this capacity, she held fiduciary responsibility for more than $50 billion in investment assets, including more than $20 billion in emerging markets and credit instruments. In addition to her role as divisional CEO, Gloria served as the only female member of the Global Private Wealth Management Executive Committee.
Gloria has been a pioneer in the development of social impact products. She was instrumental in making Deutsche Bank a leading institutional supporter of microcredit, creating multiple programs to help Private Wealth Management clients learn about and invest in the sector. Gloria also served on the Board of the Deutsche Bank Americas Community Development Group, with responsibility for providing loans, investments and grants to targeted organizations throughout the U.S. and Latin America. Gloria also served as Managing Director of Scudder Kemper Investments prior to its purchase by Deutsche Bank. While at Scudder, she supported the development and growth of one of the industry’s first socially-responsible investment (SRI) products.
Prior to her tenure at Deutsche Bank, Gloria spent 16 years as an executive at Bank of America/Security Pacific Bank, most notably as President and CEO of BofA Capital Management, Inc., an investment management subsidiary managing $35 billion in assets for both retail and institutional investors. In addition to managing fixed-income and equity mutual funds in the U.S. and internationally, Gloria’s division was responsible for managing assets on behalf of public funds, common trust funds and corporate funds.
In addition to her activities with TriLinc Global, Gloria is Chairman of the Board and Independent Trustee for RS Investments, a mutual fund complex with more than $20 billion in assets under management. She is a life-long supporter of development-oriented philanthropic causes. She has volunteered as a teacher of at-risk youth in the Los Angeles Unified School District and the YMCA of Los Angeles. Gloria currently sits on the board of multiple not-for-profit organizations and actively supports entrepreneurship research and education. She is an active speaker and guest lecturer on Impact Investing at conferences and several top business schools, including Columbia, Georgetown, Wheaton, Kellogg, Stanford and MIT.
Brent VanNorman – President
Brent VanNorman serves as the President of TriLinc Global and is a key member of the Executive Management team. With responsibility for ensuring that the company’s investment systems and operational infrastructure can deliver exceptional results and that the company consistently delivers on its financial targets, Brent is responsible for planning, implementing and managing all financial, legal/structural, and operational activities of the Company and its affiliates. Mr. VanNorman brings a breadth of experience in business, accounting, data processing, and the law to the TriLinc management team. Prior to joining the Company, Brent served as a key member of the Intellectual Property and Litigation Team for the international law firm of Hunton & Williams LLP. In addition to appearing in many federal courts throughout the country and at all levels in the Virginia state court system, Brent is a patent attorney.
Prior to practicing law, Brent served as a Chief Information Officer for The Title Office, where he managed the accounting, data processing and marketing department, along with 15 of the company’s 42 offices. Prior to his tenure at The Title Office, Brent was a Senior Manager with the international CPA firm of Crowe Horwath (formerly Crowe Chizek), where he oversaw large consulting projects in the firm’s Systems Consulting Group. He is also a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Computer Programmer and is certified in Production and Inventory Management.
Brent graduated magna cum laude from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, with majors in Accounting and Computer Science. He was recognized as the Outstanding Accounting graduate. Brent graduated summa cum laude from Regent University School of Law and was recognized as the Outstanding Law School Graduate, in addition to being Editor-in-Chief of the school’s law review. He has served as an adjunct law professor at his alma mater. Brent has served on the Board of Directors of IMPACT International, a not-for-profit, since 2004, and on the Board of Directors of CCG Systems, Inc. since September 2015.
Paul R. Sanford – Chief Investment Officer & Investment Committee Chairman
Paul Sanford is the Chief Investment Officer of TriLinc Global and is a key member of the Executive Management team. As Chief Investment Officer and Chairman of TriLinc’s Investment Committee, Paul has responsibility for planning, implementing and managing all investment management related activities of the Company and its affiliates. He is an experienced investment professional, most recently serving as Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer for Tow Financial Advisors, a Los Angeles-based boutique Registered Investment Advisor. As Chief Investment Officer, he was responsible for developing and implementing Tow’s global investment strategy, performing manager due diligence, and managing all fund investment relationships.
His extensive experience in the banking and investment industry includes portfolio manager positions at Deutsche Bank, HSBC and Morton Capital Management. For over a decade, Paul has been recognized as a global macro investor with a focus on central bank policy, GDP growth trends, global interest rates, global currencies and foreign government policies with an emphasis in emerging markets. He is a published thought leader and has hosted regular Investor Briefings on his macro-economic outlook and global investment strategy.
Paul earned his B.A. in Business Economics from California State University, Long Beach and previously served in the United States Marine Corps. He is a member of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Society of Los Angeles and the CFA Institute.
Paul serves on the Investment Committee for the City of Hope, an independent biomedical research, treatment and education institution, leading the fight to conquer cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases.
Joan Trant – Director of Marketing & Impact
Joan Trant is the Director of Marketing and Impact and a key member of the TriLinc Global Executive Management team with responsibility for accelerating fund sales through specific channels, helping build the TriLinc brand, and leading the Company’s efforts to support the continued development of the impact investing industry. Prior to joining TriLinc Global, Joan launched and was Executive Director of the International Association of Microfinance Investors (IAMFI). IAMFI’s Limited Partner members’ microfinance commitments/investments totaled $780 million, and General Partner members managed an aggregate portfolio of $1.84 billion. IAMFI led the microfinance investment industry with proprietary research, contributions to third party publications, educational and networking meetings, tailored member services and consensus-building for investor best practices.
Prior to IAMFI, Joan was Deputy Executive Director of The Resource Foundation, supporting community-building programs in 20 Latin American countries, benefiting annually 4.6 million underserved children, youths, women and men. Previously, Joan spent 15 years in the financial services industry, holding international sales, financial advisory and operations management positions at Bankers Trust and Citibank, with direct experience in the Spanish, Mexican and Argentine markets. She oversaw a combined portfolio of $225 million in client assets.
Joan is a graduate of Columbia University’s Graduate School of Business Executive Level Nonprofit Management Certification Program. She graduated magna cum laude with a B.S. degree from Georgetown University. Joan serves as an advisor to Inspiring Capital and co-leads the Georgetown Alumni College program in New York City. She is fluent in Spanish with working knowledge of Portuguese. Joan is based in Manhattan.
Tim Morgan – Director of Institutional Sales
Tim Morgan serves as Director of Institutional Sales and is a key member of the Executive Management Team. Tim manages institutional sales outreach for TriLinc and brings over 30 years of experience in the capital markets, venture capital and consulting industries holding senior positions in sales, business development and management as well as serving as board advisor and mentor to several technology companies.
Prior to joining TriLinc, Tim managed the San Francisco office for Liquidnet, a global institutional trading firm where he was responsible for their capital markets business and outreach to the venture capital and private equity communities. Tim also served as Managing Director at Hanna Ventures and Hanna Energy, LLC, a smart grid technology private equity group focused on communications and security investments within the electricity distribution and transmission space. From November 2010 to 2013, Tim served as the Head of Business and Product Development for TriLinc.
Tim’s capital markets experience includes a 22 year investment banking career, which includes 12 years as an executive with Robertson Stephens and Co. where he focused on emerging growth companies and their related venture capital investors. Additionally, he managed key client relationship groups for UBS and Royal Bank of Canada. Early in his career, Mr. Morgan was a co-owner of Morgan Electronics, Inc., a cyber security firm specializing in securitizing data centers and large campus environments.
Tim is an ardent supporter of positive social change through sustainable economics and technology platforms like social media, micro grids and dual currencies. He is actively involved with nonprofit organizations in South America, Asia and the U.S.
Marixa Barba – Chief of Staff & Human Resource Director
Marixa Barba serves as Chief of Staff and Human Resource Director for TriLinc Global and is a key member of the Executive Management team. She is responsible for a wide variety of functions including keeping critical processes and company priorities on track, ensuring the flow of communication inside and outside the organization, supervising special projects and managing all aspects of Human Resources. She joined TriLinc Global after an 11 year career in the retail service industry. Most recently, she was the office manager for a medical transportation company and previously worked for Ridgewood Securities, an investment firm specializing in investment advisory, financial planning and pension consulting.
Marixa holds a B.S. in Business Administration with an option in International Business and a minor in Economics from California State University, Los Angeles. She also holds a Paralegal Certificate from UCLA Extension. Marixa is a member of the South Bay Young Professionals community and Soroptimist International, which is an international women’s organization for professional women who work to improve the lives of women and girls in local communities and around the world. Marixa is fluent in English and Spanish.
Justin Chen – Operations & Compliance Specialist
Justin Chen serves as Operations & Compliance Specialist for TriLinc Global. He is responsible for a wide variety of functions including supporting investment and accounting operations and all areas of compliance, with an emphasis on RIA and Fund compliance, as well as assisting with due diligence requests and maintaining the company’s various data rooms. He joined TriLinc Global after working as a Marketing and Investor Services Specialist at Cornerstone Real Estate Funds. Justin previously worked as a Sales Representative for a multimedia technology company.
Justin holds a B.S. degree in Sociology from the University of California, Irvine. He is fluent in English and Mandarin.
Luis Cifuentes serves as Senior Accountant for TriLinc Global, with accounting responsibilities across TriLinc Global, LLC and its subsidiaries. Immediately prior to joining TriLinc Global, Luis was Senior Accountant at GemCap Lending, a firm that provides senior-secured, commercial asset-based loans ranging from $500,000 to $10 million to small and middle market businesses. Before his tenure at GemCap, Luis served as accountant for National Genetics Institute, a genetics testing research laboratory, as well as a financial services firm whose clients are high net worth individuals in the entertainment industry.
Luis graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a B.S. in Business Administration with an option in Accounting. Luis is a native of Guatemala and is fluent in English and Spanish.
Michael Dean – Head of Credit
Michael Dean serves as Head of Credit for TriLinc Global, with responsibility for implementing the credit processes of TriLinc Global and overseeing those of its sub-advisors. Prior to joining TriLinc Global, Michael served as Executive Director at Umoya Capital Management, Inc. a California based boutique consulting firm that advises hedge funds, fund of hedge funds and banks focused on asset-based lending.
Previously, Michael was Head of Fund Risk and Operational Due Diligence at Harcourt Investment Consulting, a Fund of Hedge Funds based in Zurich, Switzerland. During his tenure at Harcourt, Michael directed all operational due diligence activities across the firm’s investment portfolio and spearheaded the wind-down of the firm’s legacy asset-based lending positions. Michael also served as Director and Investment Analyst at Gottex Fund Management, a Swiss based Fund of Hedge Funds, where he performed detailed due diligence on asset-based lending and credit opportunity funds in the U.S., Latin America and Europe. Before joining Gottex, Michael spent seven years at Sovereign Bank structuring and underwriting asset-based and middle market loans.
Michael graduated from Boston University with a B.A. in Economics and International Relations. Born and raised in South Africa, Michael is a dual citizen of South Africa and the UK and is fluent in Afrikaans.
Peter Greenwood – Impact & ESG Officer
Peter Greenwood serves as the Impact & ESG Officer for TriLinc Global, with responsibility for supporting the impact and marketing-related activities of the Company and its affiliates. Prior to joining TriLinc Global, Peter served as an independent consultant with the conservation trust fund, Fondo Acción, as well as an Academic Director and Adjunct Professor at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia.
Previously, Peter held the positions of International Economist and Investment Analyst at the U.S. Government’s development finance institution, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC). During his tenure at OPIC, Peter executed detailed emerging market industry analyses and economic impact evaluations of private equity, project finance, and political risk insurance transactions. Additionally, Peter managed approximately US$2 billion in private equity fund investments through OPIC’s investment policy clearance review process, including environmental, health, safety, economic impact, worker rights, and human rights reviews.
Peter earned a MBA from the Universidad de los Andes, a Master in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh, and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Duluth with a BA in International Studies and Foreign Languages. Peter is fluent in Spanish.
Marni Hodder – Director of Operations & Compliance
Marni Hodder serves as Director of Operations and Compliance and is responsible for developing and implementing the operational and compliance-related activities of the Company and its affiliates. Previously, Marni served as Chief Impact Officer for TriLinc Global and was responsible for the design and implementation of TriLinc’s impact measurement program.
Marni has spent her career in the investment industry and contributes more than 17 years of investment industry experience. Her specific expertise includes portfolio accounting and administration, and registered investment adviser (“RIA”) operations and compliance, with an emphasis on robust and efficient process. Immediately prior to joining TriLinc Global, Ms. Hodder served as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer for Tow Financial Advisors, a Los Angeles-based boutique RIA, where she was also a member of the Investment Committee. During her tenure at Tow, she created and implemented a start-up compliance program for the independent RIA, oversaw all portfolio accounting and administration, as well as all IT platforms, designed and implemented a fiduciary-focused investment due diligence program, developed a proprietary fiduciary-focused 401(k) platform, and created and implemented a profit-center tracking system designed to focus resources on most profitable business lines.
Ms. Hodder graduated magna cum laude from Northern Arizona University with majors in German and French. She has received formal training in investment fiduciary responsibility, and has earned the Accredited Investment Fiduciary professional designation, awarded by the Center for Fiduciary Studies, which is associated with the University of Pittsburgh.
Blake Kalcevich – Business Development Analyst
Blake Kalcevich serves as a Business Development Analyst at TriLinc Global where he is responsible for supporting the sales division and providing logistical analysis to the Company. Blake joined TriLinc after working as an Inbound Sales Analyst for TriLinc Global’s third party distribution partner, Strategic Capital Distributors. Previously, he worked in inside and outside sales roles for an electrical distribution company.
Blake holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Administration with a minor in Business from California State University Fresno. While at Fresno, he served as faculty liaison and President of the Sports Administration Club. He is an active alumn of his alma mater and continues to mentor young men through his national fraternity, Sigma Nu.
Amy McCance – Project Manager
Amy McCance serves as a Project Manager for TriLinc Global where she is responsible for supporting the administrative aspects of the operations, marketing, compliance, finance and impact-related activities of the Company. Amy joined TriLinc after working for several years in digital marketing where she focused on building an online presence and community for various health and nutrition-related companies.
Amy holds a BS in Communication Studies from The University of Texas at Austin with a focus in political communication and international studies. She is an active member of the Texas Exes, the Junior League of Los Angeles, and is a frequent volunteer with Young Life.
Jean-Marc Plantier – Director of Finance
Jean-Marc Plantier serves as Director of Finance for TriLinc Global, with responsibility for managing all finance and accounting activities for the Company and its affiliates. Prior to joining TriLinc Global, Jean-Marc was employed by Resource Global Professionals as a consultant specializing in accounting, SEC and financial reporting, and audit quality control.
Previously, Jean-Marc served as an independent consultant to various small private and public companies and an Audit Partner for Cacciamatta Accountancy Corporation, where he was primarily responsible for the financial statement audits of the firm’s public and private clients. His responsibilities at Cacciamatta Accountancy Corporation also included SEC reporting, accounting for complex debt and equity transactions, derivative accounting, accounting for business combinations, and compliance with PCAOB auditing standards. Jean-Marc’s professional career has also included Hall & Company, CPAs, McGladrey & Pullen, LLP, and Moore Stephens Frazer and Torbet, LLP. He started his accounting career with Fidelity National Title Insurance Company, where he was promoted to Assistant Vice President in charge of Cash Management and Trust Accounting.
Jean-Marc is a Certified Public Accountant. He holds a BA in Business Administration (accounting concentration) from California State University, Fullerton. Jean-Marc is a native of France and fluent in French.
Jessica Risch is responsible for the planning, development and implementation of TriLinc Global’s investor relations, corporate responsibility, and public relations activities. Prior to her role in investor relations and corporate communications, she served as Project Manager where she was responsible for a wide variety of functions including supporting the operations, compliance, investment and impact-related activities of the Company.
Jessica joined TriLinc Global after working at the Clinton Global Initiative where she led the development of the organization’s impact measurement system and designed key performance indicators for the organization’s members. Prior to that, Jessica worked with the venture philanthropy group REDF to provide business development support and consulting services to a portfolio company. Jessica has a background in international development and grant-making, and served for two years as the Assistant Director of the Diane and Norman Bernstein Foundation where she guided the Foundation’s philanthropic work.
Jessica holds an MBA from the USC Marshall School of Business with a focus in Entrepreneurship. During her tenure on campus, Jessica ran Marshall Net Impact, a club for students creating positive social and environmental change in the workplace and in the world. She was also selected for the Society and Business Lab Fellowship and was a recipient of the Clinton-Orfalea-Brittingham Fellowship. Jessica graduated with a BA in Political Science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She speaks Spanish and is fluent in Hebrew.
Alena Solonina – Credit Analyst
Alena Solonina serves as a Credit Analyst for TriLinc Global, with responsibility for supporting the investment management related activities of the Company and its affiliates. Prior to joining TriLinc Global, Alena was a Head Specialist in the Agricultural Insurance Department of Ingosstrakh, a global Russian insurance and reinsurance company, where she was responsible for sales and the development of new insurance standards and policies.
There, Alena also developed individual products for mid-size and large agricultural companies, prepared qualitative and quantitative market analyses, and launched and managed new product development projects, which she saw through from conception to sales.
Alena received a Master’s Degree in Finance and Credit from the Financial University in Moscow and continued her education in the United States with a Certificate Program in Finance from UCLA Extension. Alena is a native of Russia and is fluent in Russian.
Melissa Tickle – Impact & ESG Analyst
Melissa Tickle serves as the Impact & ESG Analyst for TriLinc Global where she is responsible for supporting the impact and marketing-related activities of the Company and its affiliates.
Melissa joined TriLinc Global after working for an impact investment fund manager based in Costa Rica that focused on lending to, and implementing technical assistance facilities for, microfinance institutions throughout Latin America. There, Melissa was responsible for conducting industry and country research and developing analyses for a new investment fund targeting SMEs in the region. Prior to that, Melissa was an intern on the partnerships team at Kiva, an online platform that connects lenders to entrepreneurs, where she provided monitoring and operational support for partner microfinance institutions.
Melissa graduated from Lehigh University with a BA in Economics and International Relations and a minor in Spanish. Melissa is fluent in Spanish.
Chad VanNorman – Credit Officer
Chad VanNorman serves as a Credit Officer for TriLinc Global. He is responsible for supporting the investment management related activities of the Company and its affiliates. In 2013, he transitioned to the investment team from the operations team, having served as a Staff Accountant. Chad joined TriLinc Global after graduating from university. He had previous experiences in accounting, serving as an assurance intern for Ernst & Young and tax and assurance intern for Hogan Taylor.
Chad is a 2016 Level II Candidate in the CFA Program and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. degree in Accounting from Oral Roberts University. While at Oral Roberts, Chad served as CFO of a Student Association and as a Teacher’s Assistant for the head of the Principles of Accounting Course. Chad is a member of the South Bay Young Professionals community.
Chloe Zhu – Credit Officer
Chloe Zhu serves as Credit Officer for TriLinc Global. She is responsible for supporting the investment management related activities of the Company and its affiliates. Prior to joining TriLinc Global, Chloe served as a sell-side credit research associate in the Investment Banking Division of JPMorgan Chase & Co. in New York City. During her tenure, Chloe co-authored 300+ investment notes and advised institutional investors globally. Chloe was also part of the team that produced the 2015 GIIN-JPM Impact Investor Survey.
Chloe graduated from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in Economics. She was on the Dean’s List, and received the UChicago Career in Business certificate, a joint program between the college and the Booth School of Business. Chloe has passed Level I and Level II of the CFA exam. She is an active volunteer with Accion, and played a major role in establishing the inaugural Junior Board of Accion East. Chloe grew up in China and is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
