Kano to get 44 micro finance banks

A consulting firm, KUDITECH Investment Limited, is seeking partnership with the Kano State Government to establish micro-finance banks in each of the 44 local government areas of the state.
Prof. Pedro Alimi, the Chairman of the company disclosed this on Thursday in Kano when he paid a courtesy call on Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmoud, the Commissioner for Finance.
He said the banks would provide opportunity for the rural communities to access loans to improve their social and economic wellbeing.
“The banks will provide loan facilities to small and medium scale businessmen and women and this will go a long way in enhancing economic growth in the rural areas,” he said.
He said that the proposed banks would also provide job opportunities to unemployed people in the rural areas.
“Each branch of the banks can employ between 20 and 25 persons when they start operation’, he said.
Responding, the commissioner said the government was prepared to work with the company to ensure the take off of the banks.
Mahmoud commended the company for initiating various programmes aimed at empowering the rural populace.
